Metal netting/seagrass and seaweeds.
Epitaph was Marie Dahl’s sculpture and a performanc-contribution to Travers at the Glyptotek in 2018. The installation was a sculpture made of seaweed and seagrass on netting. The aim was to show the human body in a material and posture contrasted to the surrounding historical marble or stone sculptures. Marie Dahl’s sculpture thereby becomes the fragility, temporality and mortality that comprises the human body and life, as an antithesis to the “everlasting” classical marble sculptures, made to immortalize the portrayed character.
At the opening, Marie Dahl did a live performance in which she sang to her sculpture. The song was the epitaph of Seikilos, the oldest surviving complete musical composition found on a tombstone from the first or second century CE. She was graced by a temporary visit from violinist Karen Humle, who improvised with her.
Travers was an interdisciplinary platform and gathering of international artists in Denmark between 2018 and 2021.
