Metal netting/Seagrass and seaweeds/Projection/Audio
Welcome Home is a tableaux consisting of two sculptures of human figures in seagrass/seaweed on netting, video, fresh seaweeds and an audio poem. Arranged on a floor with projections of waves, mother and small child crawl from what seems to be the shore out into the ocean to a voice beckoning them home. As the human figures seem to be disintegrating and the smell of seaweed is sharp, it is unsure if it is a scene of beginning or end.
Welcome Home Poem
Exhibition text
A descendant of the stars and the oceans, I have become a stranger.
Even unto myself.
What are we without her?
Who am I without her?
As a true post-industrial human being, my body, my desires and my despair is instrumental.
No longer mine.
As a true post-postmodern individual, I have become melancholic:
Mourning for something I cannot name.
For somewhere I used to belong.
Separated from my surroundings, I carry the burden of a constant longing for reunion.
I see the giant mirror. The world above me. The world beneath me.
